ABOUT MY BLOG

Hello, my name is Samantha Swanson, but my students call me Mrs. S. I am a Spanish teacher at a public high school serving grades 9-12, or ages 14-18.

I created this blog to share an epidemic I’ve been noticing and a personal experience I had. The epidemic is prescription drug abuse amongst children/teenagers. I have been a teacher for over ten years, and the situation has gotten out of control.

There are a lot of myths and stigmas surrounding substance abuse, particularly in children. I think it is important to break these walls and share information and true stories about the prescription drug abuse epidemic in our society. It is hurting our children, and we must use our voices to protect them. As a teacher, I am dedicated to bettering my students’ lives, and I see speaking out about drug abuse as part of my duty and obligation as a child educator.

I will start with an experience I had with a student to illustrate prescription drug abuse in high schools, and then share some information that I hope parents, or anyone struggling with substance abuse, will find helpful.

Thank you for reading, and please share this to help spread awareness of prescription drug abuse.
